Quick Shipping Update
about 8 years ago – Wed, Jan 03, 2018 at 07:58:22 AM

Hey all,

We hope everyone had a great holiday and break!  We wanted to give a quick update on the shipping of the remaining GRIPsher units.  All parts have been completed for the remaining GRIPsher units (including the  black ones) and are waiting to be assembled at our Manufacturer.

We are waiting to confirm our fix, mentioned in the previous update, to confirm that there will be no more functionality issues upon receiving a GRIPsher unit.  We should have these new samples (around 50) by the end of this week.  Pending them being assembled correctly, we will allow the other units to be assembled and delivered in the following weeks.

Over 600 people have gotten their GRIPshers already.  As stated previously, if there are any issues or concerns, shoot us an email at [email protected].  Thanks!

Potential Issues with Locking Mechanism
over 8 years ago – Thu, Dec 21, 2017 at 09:11:40 PM

Hey all,

As some of you are aware, there is a potential issue a percentage of units may be experiencing which has caused your GRIPsher unit to not function correctly.  This is, of course, a disappointment for something everyone has been waiting for over a year for. This project has been a large learning experience for us but we are working hard to ensure all issues are addressed and fixed. Below we will go into detail about the issue, it's cause, solution, and checks being implemented to prevent it from happening again.

If you are not interested in the details, the TL;DR is just send us an email at [email protected] (this is the quickest way to reach us) and we will give you instructions to send your unit back to us to be repaired.  It is a quick fix that we can accomplish very quickly and sent back to you to use to its full potential.

Also, to note, the jaws do not glow in the dark as we had originally said in the video. The resin blend we were trying with caused them to become discolored after prolonged exposure to sunlight so we decided against using it. We made the decision to prioritize shipping quicker rather than searching for one that worked.  Sorry for the inconvenience but we felt the core functionality of the units were not dramatically effected.

Symptoms

The Nut on the back is designed to be tightened by hand.  Due to an assembly error at our factory, this feature can either be too tight (the nut will not twist at all) or the nut comes off completely from the bolt.  Both situations do not allow the mechanism to function as intended and does not allow the arms to lock in a fixed postion.

Cause

As seen in the cross section below, there are two sets of threads.  The top threads are meant to be secured with a very strong threadlocker.  How strong?  The bolt should break off before this connection fails when done correctly.

However, the issue lies with the thread locker being applied incorrectly which results in one or two things going wrong.  It is either not being applied enough (bolt is able to come off completely) or some gets on the 2nd set of threads in the right arm which causes the bolt not to move at all (or be very difficult to move).

Fix

If the bolt is too tight, the hex bolt just needs to be rotated a very small amount (no more than 1/16 of a turn CW) for the first time. A small jump will occur which will means the small amount of threadlocker has been broken off.  This can be accomplished with a 2.5mm hex driver if you are comfortable using one. We do not recommend using pliers or any other tool as this may damage the unit

If the above works, its all fixed.  If not, the bolt is loose and can come off completely.  If this is the case send us an email at [email protected] and we would be happy to help with the process of sending the unit back to be fixed.  If you are not comfortable or don't want to deal with any of the above, feel free to contact us as well.

Improvements at Manufacturer

  • We have implemented more stringent quality control requirements which includes a full system check.  This includes verifying the bolt locks and that the nut cannot be removed
  • We have developed new dispensing hardware to exactly control how much and where it is dispensed
  • We have made and implemented new work instructions for assembly workers to reiterate best practices for assembly.
  • Implementing a 100% QC before a unit is sent out

Sorry again for the issues to those affected.  We are working hard to correct them both internally in our assembly process and externally for units so please bear with us.  This only effects a small percentage of overall users and will be completely corrected for any units not shipped out yet.  Again, any questions, please email us.

Shipping Update - First Batch of GRIPshers Sent Out
over 8 years ago – Mon, Dec 18, 2017 at 05:34:22 PM

Hey all,

We are proud to announce that GRIPshers have officially begun to ship out to Backers and Pre Orderers!

More than 60% of backers now have their GRIPshers in the mail and on the way to their respective addresses.  Most shipping notification emails have been sent out with the rest coming in the next few days.  Most domestic orders should arrive by the end of this week with international orders dependent on local post speed.

We are working through our last hurdle of blackening our final batch of GRIPshers (This includes GRIPsher Black and GRIPsher Military) (240) as well as the final batch of international GRIPsher Silver Orders (120).  We will keep everyone updated here as soon as we determine when they will arrive to HQ and will send them out immediately afterwards.

Shoot us a message directly if you have any questions.  We ask that you wait a week first before asking us any shipping related questions as it takes some time for shipping information to update in all of the systems.

Thanks again for everyone's patience and we hope you enjoy your GRIPsher Multi-Tool.
